At Lotus, things are getting electric! The Emira sports car marks the end of their ICE era. By 2028, the company is going full-throttle electric, starting with the Eletre SUV and Emeya sedan. Plus, there’s talk of a compact crossover and a zero-emission sports car in the mix. To power up this EV lineup, Lotus is rolling out some excellent charging solutions.
Check out their latest creation: a liquid-cooled DC charger that charges a battery with 450 kilowatts! With this, the Eletre R can get about 88 miles of range in just five minutes. For context, Tesla’s Supercharger V3 does 75 miles in that time, and the Hyundai Ioniq 5 manages 62 miles.
This liquid-cooled charger can take the Eletre R from 10 to 80 percent in just 20 minutes at 450 kW. Drop it to 350 kW, and you’re still looking at 74 miles in five minutes. They’ve got these charging beasts alongside power cabinets that keep things cool at rest areas along highways. Plus, they’ve got a charging unit that can handle four EVs at once.
This charging magic is already live in China, with plans to hit Europe and the Middle East by mid-2024. More countries are on the radar, too.
It is important to mention that Lotus is in the Geely family, along with Polestar. And Polestar’s teamed up with StoreDot for an even faster charger, aiming for 100 miles in five minutes without frying the battery. They’re testing it now and promising it won’t harm your precious power source. Exciting times for EV charging, huh?
