Lotus Emeya Electric Sedan Unveiled: Boasting 905 Horsepower and Cutting-Edge Active Aerodynamics

Lotus Emeya Electric Sedan Unveiled: Boasting 905 Horsepower and Cutting-Edge Active Aerodynamics

In a dazzling event right in the heart of New York City, Lotus took the wraps off its latest masterpiece, the Emeya. Formerly known as the Type 133, this electric four-door sedan is poised to give the Tesla Model S and Porsche Taycan Turbo a run for their money. With cutting-edge technology and sleek design, it’s Lotus’s first four-door sedan since the Opel Omega-based Carlton back in the 1990s.

Aerodynamics takes center stage in Emeya’s design. This beauty boasts an active grille, which we first saw on the Eletre SUV, designed to reduce drag when closed and cool down the battery and brakes when open.

But that’s not all – there’s also an active front spoiler, a motorsport-inspired active diffuser, and an active rear spoiler that maximizes downforce for those thrilling canyon runs and track days. The rear spoiler, in particular, is a whopping 11.0 inches wide, generating a remarkable 474 pounds of net downforce (though the exact speed isn’t specified).

Under the hood, or rather, under the sleek exterior, the Emeya shares the same platform as the Eletre, known as the Electric Premium Architecture (EPA), derived from Geely’s Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA). This setup is expected to provide a similar range to the Eletre’s impressive 373 miles on the optimistic WLTP cycle.

It comes with a 102 kWh battery pack, slightly smaller than the Eletre’s 112 kWh, but it can charge at an incredible 350 kilowatts. You can add 93 miles of range in just five minutes, and going from 10-80 percent takes only 18 minutes with a 350 kW DC fast charger.

Now, let’s talk performance – and this is where the Emeya really shines. With a mind-blowing 905 horsepower and 726 pound-feet of torque, this sedan can go from 0 to 62 miles per hour in just 2.8 seconds. Its top speed is capped at 159 mph, making it an exhilarating ride.

In the words of Ben Payne, Lotus Group’s vice president of design, “This is a completely new Lotus, something never seen before. Building on what Lotus has accomplished to this day, we have created a luxury car that delivers outstanding performance for the driving enthusiast, designed to inspire confidence and excitement.”
